Vågsenteret Bookstore/Post Office, Norway

maxit floor 4650 Duro Colour

When converting an old hardware store to a combined book store and post office, the owner wanted a novel flooring solution in keeping with the theme of the whole shopping centre refurbishment project. Instead of applying a
regular screed to take final floor coverings such as ceramic tiles or parquetry, maxit floor 4650 DuroColour and maxit floor 4600 DuroBase as
Base Screed was specified.

Normally reserved for industrial applications, floor 4650 offered something unusual to the client aesthetically, while also providing all the functional benefits required of a levelling compound. The floor 4650 meant a flat, smooth and level floor was achieved, while the long term performance of the floor compound is over and above any requirements that will be made in a domestic application.

The levelling compound was applied over 150 m2 throughout the store area. The floor 4600, strengthened with a steel reinforcement net, was laid over the tiles and old cementitious substrate at a thickness of 25 mm to achieve an even base. The floor 4650, in the colour grey, was subsequently laid over the base at a thickness of 10 mm. Once the floor screed had set a JohnsonDiversey polish was applied. Once the polish had set, aesthetical joints were cut into the floor in a 30x60 cm bound pattern to create a tile like appearance. The polish protects and enhances the natural colour of the screed giving it a durable, polished finish not found in many shopping centres or stores throughout the country.

Year of erection/renovation: 2005
Area of maxit Floor: 150 sq.m.
